Ryan Ross is one of those people you would never guess was a sous chef if you ran into him anywhere but in the kitchen at Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion Restaurant. Tall, thin, and a talented artist with a dry sense of humor, you would expect he belonged behind an easel on the West Bank of the Seine River in Paris.

But Ross is just as comfortable creating delicious tasting art in the kitchen as he is wearing a painter’s smock. Born in Honolulu, Ryan has lived in Taipei, Taiwan, and Beijing, and he has traveled to France.

He has 15 years experience in the restaurant industry, holding every position from waiter to restaurant manager to sous chef — the job that gives him the best outlet for his artistic expression.

He became a chef after attending the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco. He also attended Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va. For the past four years Ryan has studied and trained under Chef Percy Oani.
